Chloe Sevigny (NSFW) for Purple Fashion FW 2010

I don't get it.

Nothing about this shot is attractive to me.  OK, so Chloe Sevigny is naked.  She has a veil covering her head and she has on some killer thigh high boots.

Don't get me wrong - I am all about celebrating the beauty of the female form.  And Chloe is striking.

But I just don't understand this.  To me, the shot screams S&M and female oppression all at the same time.  Why?  Shock value?

Discuss.

Would it be fair to say that i think Terry Richardson is sorta pervie? Ok, not sort of. IS pervie. That goes for Mr. I-hate-bloggers-Zahm too. Why Chloe agreed to it.....any publicity is good publicity? I really like her and her spirit, so I dunno why this.

hmm...addition...Being pervie isn't bad necessarily. It's the niche these two gents have fallen into. Plus, sex sells if it is sold openly or coyly. There's always someone around to buy it. Usually. Yeah.

I am not a Richardson fan so anything he photographs I immediately discount as being exploitative. There is a desperate undercurrent in his photographs. Not sensuality nor raw sexuality. Just...seedy. Like this photograph. It could have been powerful. Sensual even. Instead it leaves me feeling suffocated. I feel sorry for Sevigny. She's a long way from her character in 'Kids' but this shot imediately reminds me of her character's plight.

...recently read somewhere that Sevigny feels that her acting talent is completely overshadowed by her fashion 'icon' image and this has upset her because she didn't set out to be a fashion 'icon'... is this photo meant to be symbolic of her feelings?

I have to do some more checking into Richardson, but if his other work is like this, I may agree. I don't know what Chloe was thinking with this shot... perhaps it is an allusion to her "fashion icon" feelings, but it's a poorly executed one if it is.
